St Mary's House of Welcome- 50 years of Service

St Mary's House of Welcome in Fitzroy have celebrated 50 years of service by moving into their original premises after an extensive renovation.

Their redevelopment has been blogged on their website here.

From the St Mary's Website:

S
T MARY'S HAS GONE HOME AGAIN

St Mary’s House of Welcome is run by the Daughters of Charity and has been providing services to homeless and disadvantaged people in Fitzroy since 1960. We work closely with other agencies to provide seamless support for many clients who come to us with increasingly complex issues caused by homelessness, poverty, substance abuse and psychiatric illness.

After 14 months of refurbishment, St Mary’s House of Welcome has moved back into its original premises at 165-169 Brunswick Street Fitzroy. The new building is designed to be a welcoming space that is both comfortable and dignified for those who use it. There are many new facilities which will allow a greater number of services and programs than has previously been offered at St Mary’s. New spaces include a women’s room, training kitchen, arts and crafts room, computer training room, multi-purpose room and health clinic.

St Mary’s will continue to provide food, social support, emergency relief and training and skill development for the homeless and disadvantaged, but in addition the new building enables us to offer a wider range of flexible and responsive programs for the increasing number of people in need.
